Consultant Midwife
Hallo! This is Lucy Muchiri. Thank you for visiting evesmama.com
It is a great privilege to be an Independent Midwife. I believe and understand that the experience of being pregnant and being a new parent can be greatly enhanced by having continuity of care and regular support.
My journey as a Midwife began after I was registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya as a Registered Nurse (RN). Deciding to become a midwife was one of the best decisions I ever made. I enjoyed the training, conducted twice the number of births that were required and started practicing my Midwifery on my friends. I was registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya as licensed Midwife in 1999. Thereafter, it was natural to make home visits, offer guidance and share information about pregnancy, breastfeeding, new born care and birth control with expectant and new mums and sometimes dads.
My practice and motherhood led to the realization that the need for more empowerment, education, guidance and capacity for expectant and new parents was dire.
I have helped many families through pregnancy, birth and the first few months of parenthood. I have a strong belief in the sanctity of human life which I combined with a practical understanding of the processes of childbirth.
As a midwife, I believe that:
- Birth is the beginning of a new life, a foundation for the family and a beginning of a new lifestyle for the parents
- Childbirth is a normal, natural process and a rite of passage. Every woman has an intrinsic ability to go through this process in her own special way
- Therefore, every woman deserves respect and should be treated with dignity. All options of care should be given to her so she can make an informed choice about her care and that of her baby.
- Every expectant mother should be informed of the benefits of continuous support during labor and birth. She then has a right to receive such support from a companion of her choice, such as her spouse, partner, family member, friend or doula.
- During labor and delivery, every woman should be accorded specific evidence-based care proven to be beneficial in supporting the normal physiology of labor, birth, and the postpartum period
